Credits

What counts as a credit

A credit is the unit your plan's monthly allowance is measured in. Every channel, and the AI you use, draws on the same monthly credits, so there is one allowance to watch.

What each activity costs in credits

How texts are counted

A text is one credit per segment. A segment holds about 160 characters, or about 70 once the message contains an emoji or another special character, so a 200-character text without emoji is two credits. Engage shows the part count as you write.

66 characters, 1 segment, so about 1 credit per guestStandard characters: 160 fit in one segment, then 153 a segment.

An estimate. The part count when the text is sent is what counts.

AI and credits

AI you use spends credits on every plan: drafting, subject suggestions, the agent and images. Each request is priced by the work it does, so a subject line suggestion costs less than a full email draft, and every request costs at least one credit. A request that fails costs nothing. Background monitoring and insights are included on paid plans and spend credits on the free plan.

Ads, in pilot

Ads on Facebook and Instagram are in pilot. Ad media is paid to Meta, or through your prepaid wallet if Purple manages the account. Purple's standard 15% fee is always its own line, and the maximum total is shown before you approve a campaign.

At your limit

What happens when your credits run low

  1. At 50%, 75% and 90%

Purple Engage emails you and shows an alert in the app at each point, so nothing stops without warning.

  2. At 100%

It tells you again, and sending pauses, because overage is off by default on every plan. Reading, reporting and editing keep working, and so do sign-up forms, WiFi capture, imports, unsubscribes and consent emails.

  3. If you choose

An Owner or Billing Admin can turn overage on with a monthly budget cap, which can be zero. Extra credits are charged per 1,000 on your next bill, never above your cap.

  4. On the 1st

Your credits reset on the 1st of each month and sending carries on. Unused credits do not roll over, and you can upgrade at any time.

Extra credits in a month, charged per 1,000 when overage is turned on
Extra credits in the monthPer 1,000
1 to 10,000£2.00
10,001 to 50,000£1.00
50,001 and above£0.60
  • Sends never stop halfway

A campaign reserves the credits it needs when it launches. If your credits and any overage budget cannot cover it, Engage tells you before it starts.

  • The free plan is never billed

It has no card on file, so it pauses at 500 credits until the next month or until you upgrade.

  • Over every month? Upgrade

On the 5,000 plan, 10,000 credits over costs £20 as overage, against £15 more to move up to the 15,000 plan.

Questions

Questions about pricing

Do I pay for contacts?

No. Contacts are unlimited* on every plan, including the free one. Purple Engage charges for what you send, so the WiFi logins you collect never raise your bill on their own.

What happens if I go over my credits?

Sending pauses until your credits reset on the 1st of the month, or until you upgrade, because overage is off by default on every plan. On a paid plan, an Owner or Billing Admin can turn overage on with a monthly budget cap, which can be zero. Extra credits are then charged per 1,000 at the published overage rates on your next bill, and never above the cap. The free plan has no card on file, so it is never billed for extra credits.

What counts as a credit?

An email or a WhatsApp message Engage sends for you is one credit, and so is a survey invitation. A text is one credit per segment, about 160 characters or fewer with emoji. An email campaign to 2,000 guests uses 2,000 credits. An offer sent inside a message is covered by that message's credit, a standalone offer issued is one credit, and redemptions are free. Storing contacts never counts.

Can a campaign run out of credits halfway through?

No. A campaign reserves the credits it needs when it launches, so a send that has started is never cut off part way. If your credits, and any overage budget you have set, cannot cover it, Engage tells you before it starts.

Do the AI features use credits?

Yes. AI you use (drafting, the agent, images) spends credits on every plan. Background monitoring and insights are included on paid plans. On the free plan, background monitoring and insights spend credits too. It all comes from the same monthly credits as your sends, so there is one allowance to watch.

Who pays for texts and WhatsApp messages?

A text uses one credit per segment, about 160 characters or fewer with emoji, and a WhatsApp message uses one credit, like an email. Twilio also bills the message on your own Twilio account, at Twilio's price, and Purple adds no markup. Availability and carrier charges depend on your destination and Twilio account.

What does annual billing save?

Between 8% and 10%, depending on the tier, paid once a year instead of monthly. The plan picker and the table of plans show the exact saving for each tier.

Is VAT included?

Yes, where it applies. Listed prices include VAT, so in the UK the figure you see includes VAT at 20%. Elsewhere the rate differs, and in some countries VAT does not apply. Extra credits are listed the same way.

Do I need a card to start?

No. The free plan is listed at 500 credits a month, with unlimited* contacts, and needs no card. You add a card when you move to a paid plan.

Which plan should I choose?

Count the emails and WhatsApp messages you send in a month, add one credit per text segment, and pick the plan that covers it. If you are not sure, start on the free plan and watch what you use.

How are texts counted?

One credit per segment. A segment is about 160 characters, or about 70 when the text contains an emoji or another special character, so a longer text uses more than one credit.

Do offers use credits?

An offer sent inside a message is covered by that message's credit. An offer issued on its own is one credit, and redeeming an offer is free.

Do ads use credits?

No. Ads are in pilot. Ad media is paid to Meta, or through your prepaid wallet if Purple manages the account, and Purple's standard 15% fee is shown as its own line before you approve.

How will I know I am running low?

Purple Engage emails you and shows an alert in the app at 50%, 75% and 90% of your allowance, and again at 100%. If you turn overage on, it also tells you at 75% and 100% of your budget.

Do unused credits roll over?

No. Your allowance resets on the 1st of each month, and credits you did not use that month do not carry over. If you often finish a month with credits left, a smaller plan may suit you better.

What still works when my credits run out?

Everything except new sending. You can still read, report and edit, and guests can still join through sign-up forms and WiFi. Imports and webhooks keep running, and unsubscribes, double opt-in and consent emails always go out.

Which currencies can I pay in?

Pounds, US dollars or euros. The plan picker shows pounds on the UK site and US dollars on the US site, and the table of plans can show all three.

What if I send more than 2,000,000 credits a month?

We build the plan around your sending. Tell us your volumes and we will come back with a number.
